Ebook About
The world’s leading psychiatric authority on demonic possession delves into the hidden world of exorcisms and his own transformation from cynic to believer over the course of his twenty-five-year career.Successful New York psychiatrist Richard Gallagher was skeptical yet intrigued when a hard-nosed, no-nonsense Catholic priest asked him to examine a woman for a possible exorcism. Meeting her, Gallagher was astonished. The woman’s behavior defied logic. In an instant, she could pinpoint a person’s secret weaknesses. She knew how individuals she’d never known had died, including Gallagher’s own mother, who passed away after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer. She spoke fluently in multiple languages, including Latin—but only when she was in a trance. This was not psychosis, Gallagher concluded. It was, in his scientific estimation, what could only be describe as paranormal ability. The woman wasn’t mentally disturbed—she was possessed. This remarkable case was the first of many that Gallagher would encounter. Sought after today by leaders of all faiths—ministers, priests, rabbis and imams, Gallagher has spent a quarter-century studying demonic activity and exorcisms throughout history and has witnessed more cases than any other psychiatrist in the world today. In this eerie and enthralling book, Gallagher chronicles his most famous cases for the first time, including: A professional who claimed her spiritualist mother had “assigned” her a spirit who “turned on her.”A petite woman—”90 pounds soaking wet”—who threw a 200-pound Lutheran deacon across the room to the horror of onlookers in a church hall; And “Julia,” the so-called Satanic queen and self-described witch, who exhibited “the most harrowing” case, a “once-in-a-century” possession.Going beyond horror movies and novels, Demonic Foes takes you deep into this hidden world, sharing in full details of these true-life tales of demonic possession.

Book Demonic Foes: My Twenty-Five Years as a Psychiatrist Investigating Possessions, Diabolic Attacks, and the Paranormal Review :

Phenomenal book, period. After reading you can't help but have enormous admiration and respect for Dr. Gallagher. His meticulous presentation of case studies provide an incredible insight like no other on this subject matter. It's clear it took a huge amount of courage to step forward and provide others valuable information about a real realm of our existence.I'm sure skeptics will abound in attempting to dismiss the subject of demonic activity in modern society, however, one cannot easily overcome the incredible credentials and validity of Dr. Gallagher. The truth is evil exists. The reality is demonic activity must be taken seriously. As superbly presented it takes highly qualified professionals to work with the religious to ensure appropriate help is provided as needed (physical or spiritual or both). The Catholic Church has established very strict guidelines on determining if someone meets the criteria for exorcism. Dr. Gallagher masterfully presents the necessity to include professionals who are extremely skeptical about an individual's claim of possession. In summary, I can't say enough about the value of this book to both the lay and professional.Dr. Gallagher - Great job!!!!!
I picked up this book because I thought the premise was very intriguing. Dr. Gallagher, a psychiatrist, gets involved with an exorcist and helps him assess people to eliminate any psychiatric conditions. If this is where it all would end - with Dr. Gallagher announcing his diagnosis and letting the exorcist do his thing - I would have loved the book. However, the author goes from a neutral, scientific position, to a speculative one, claiming that if he couldn’t find anything wrong medically with a person, it must be demons. Erm, ok? Why is he so sure it’s demons? Why not aliens, controlling our minds or something of that sort? I mean, he claims that the evidence is irrefutable and yet, all of his evidence is people acting weird and talking in strange voices or showing knowledge of foreign languages they never studied. However, people with head traumas (who never had anything close to “possession” happening to them) also suddenly began talking in a foreign - or sometimes ancient - language they never studied. It only shows you that something is occurring in a brain that modern science can’t explain at this stage, and not some demons. As for supernatural strength “possessed people” supposedly sometimes establish, there were countless occasions when people established the same “supernatural strength” in dire circumstances, lifting cars off people jammed underneath or prying an alligator’s mouth open to save their pet. Adrenaline does it, not demons.Another interesting fact is that he never brought up a case of an atheist or an agnostic who was supposedly “possessed.” Only religious people, so won’t you conclude from this that it has something to do with their religious beliefs and not scientific facts? Why do only religious people believe themselves to be possessed or haunted or assaulted by demons or whatever? Why not a single atheist was ever bothered by a similar demonic attack? Because they already don’t believe in god and therefore, the demons’ work here is done? I mean, come on. Read this book if you’re interested in the subject, but don’t expect any science from it.
